Gift Box Tutorial - Part 2

My last tutorial showed you how to make a super easy gift box - here's how to decorate it :)

This second part is totally optional for the box, but you may just want to make one of these because they are absolutely gorgeous!  You could even glue a brooch pin to the back....

What you'll need:

A large flower punch.
If you don't have a punch, Just copy/print/trace this picture

Ruler, pencil & scissors.

PVA glue or tacky glue - even UHU will do (see how I made that rhyme??)

Punch out 3 flowers from patterned paper:

I chalked round the edge of them in red to match my box...

Then turn each flower face down, and rule a line between the petals.

Snip one line on one flower to the centre point and set it to the side. Then cut one full petal from one flower, and two petals together from the other flower.  You should now have 5 pieces:
I chalked the back of my flowers as well so I wouldn't have any bright white showing.

Then using a thin paintbrush, roll the edge of the petals over it to curl them..

This next bit gets a little fiddly at the end, but stick with it...

Take your first flower with the snipped line... dab some PVA glue unto the petal left of the line and overlap the right petal over on top of it.
Do the same again for the flower with the petal missing... and then again for the one with 2 petals missing.

For the little piece with just 2 petals... roll it up a little bit first... you might have to uncurl the petal edge for this to work, but you can curl them again after you have it glued.  Only glue a little bit of one side, don't glue the whole petal right over the other one.

Same again for the smallest piece... just roll it up into a flute shape and glue the slight overlap.

Now, snip the bottom off each piece, and glue a little circle of card to the bottom of the largest flower. I did this at the end, but it's probably better to glue your large flower unto the circle first. (If you are making this into a brooch, cut a longer oval of card for the brooch pin to fit on).

Then just layer them up...

Take your second largest piece and dab some glue around the bottom, position it into the largest piece making sure the petals are alternating. Do the same again with the rest of the pieces until you slip the smallest petal into the centre.

Voila - A beautiful 3D rose :)

Let it dry and then you can stick some gems unto the petals and glue it in place on your box... or glue it to whatever you like.... I actually think 8 or 9 of these would look great cascading down the side of a wall mirror :)  Or you could stick them on a picture frame :)

sorry about the quality of the photo...
taken rather hurriedly this morning!
This is one of my other loves... Cross Stitch :)

I'd love to see or hear some of your ideas.... so, go on, give it a go :)

til next time
