Bleach Painting - Another Easy Tutorial

This one is a bit more messy :)

Here's what I used:

250gsm watercolour paper - available in Easons etc...  you can use ordinary card but it warps dreadfully when it gets wet - cut into 4 inch squares.

Black card - slightly bigger than 4 inch

White square card blank - 5 inch square
Yes, those are shot glasses (12 for £1 in Poundland and perfect
for crafting :)

Spritzer bottle with plain water - or you can use a paintbrush.

Ink - watercolour. It needs to be pretty concentrated to get strong enough colours.  I've used Ken Oliver Colour Bursts... it's a highly concentrated powder that explodes with brightness when introduced to water.   here's a link to Ken demonstrating his powders.....Ken Oliver Color Burst Demo

Pipette - or a paintbrush to pick up the ink.  I bought pipettes on Ebay for under £2 for 20.

Rubber stamps - no silhouettes, you need something with outlines :)

Black Stazon Ink - it needs to be a waterproof ink - if not it'll run when the bleach hits it.

Heat gun - to dry the paper, unless you are extremely patient and want to wait LOL

Fine detailed paintbrush - I use a number 0. but any sort that has a fine point will do

Bleach!! - standard household bleach. Just the tiniest amount will do.... I usually pour a pea sized amount into a milk bottle lid (or something similar that you don't want to use again, unless it's specifically for this technique!)

And here we go:

Best thing to do first is take your watercolour paper/card and tape it to a protective surface (a plastic bag will do just as well) with masking tape...

Then using your spritzer bottle filled with water, or take a paintbrush dipped in water, soak the paper... then using your pipette or paintbrush... pick up some coloured ink and drop it unto the paper... it will spread out quite quickly... do this all over, and use a few different colours...

If you can't wait for it to dry (cos it will take ages), use a heat gun and dry it off.... once dry, remove the masking tape (slowly and carefully, as it might rip your paper otherwise)

I used a paper towel to soak up some
of the excess water first.  A heat gun
will spread your ink more, than letting it dry naturally.

Choose a stamp and with your black waterproof ink, stamp it unto your square of coloured card.

Now the fun bit....

take the tiniest amount of bleach on the end of your detail paintbrush and start to colour inside the stamped image (careful not to go outside the lines)... almost immediately you'll see the colour fade out of the ink and turn completely white.

Once you're done... stamp a sentiment and then you're ready to mount it unto a piece of black card and stick it to your square card blank.  Bling it up with a few gems or pearls or any other accessories you like :) I use black card as I think it makes the design really pop :)

Here are a few samples with some variations ready to make into cards:)

If you try this, I'd love to see your work :)

take care, and see you next time:)

Masking - Easy Tutorial

As promised... here's a little bit of crafty goodness....

Sorry there's no video, but hopefully the pictures explain what's going on.. and this is dead easy to make :)

The materials I used are as follows:

Clear stamps (that I got free with different various card making magazines) - Wildflowers border stamp, Fairy stamp (which I cut apart from some swirly leaves) and a sentiment stamp. If you don't have anything like this in your stash... I'm sure someone on Ebay will have something similar :)

Acrylic or stamping block - I use a M.I.S.T.I.   here's a link to see what it can do... you'll want one, I promise!! Click here to see the MISTI in action

Black Stazon ink pad.

Square white card blank.

Coloured chalk or ink cubes.

Sponge blender, or one of those round cone shaped makeup sponges from the pound shop will work :)

Circle punch (or draw round a small glass or a roll or sellotape - or be inventive LOL)

And a glitter pen.

I started with my white card blank and stamped on the wildflowers border in black, then positioned my little fairy on top of the flowers and stamped her in black as well.  Across from that, I placed my sentiment and stamped in black too.

Using my circle punch, I cut out a circle from some paper and applied some temporary glue to the back (a post-it note will work too).  And placed the circle over part of my fairy.....

Here's the fun bit.... take some blue ink or chalk on your sponge... and start in a circle motion from the top, apply it to the edge of your card and moving in to the middle to half way down.  I used a purple for the next part, and a pink for the bottom section...

Remove the circle of paper to reveal a nice bright white sun/moon depending how dark you use your inks/chalks.  You can always change the colours to reds and oranges to represent the sunset.

Or.... from the paper that you cut your circle from... place that over the fairy stamp (or whatever stamp you use) and with orange and yellow inks, sponge the inside of the circle and create a sun....

Using a glitter pen, go over some of the details in your stamps and hey presto, you're done.

Here are some of my finished samples with a few variations :

Hope you enjoyed this one...

Til next time :)

Introduction - My Craft Room

Hi everyone,

My name is Glenda, and I love to craft (and hopefully blog lol).  If it involves cutting, sticking and colouring, then I'm in my element.  I've been making cards for years, and I've been trying to get into scrapbooking, but I can't seem to find the time... I need to try.. I have thousands of photos and umpteen empty scrapbooks, all waiting to be utilised!  I just keep seeing new techniques and products and get carried away and distracted by all things crafty.

Anyway... I seem to have a disease.... I CAN'T STOP BUYING CRAFTY GOODIES!!!!

And I thought it was about time I try and share some of my creations with you all.  I will try to do some tutorials at some stage, although not sure you'll appreciate my Northern Irish accent LOL

For now, I will try and keep you updated with my most recent makes or make (depending on how much time I've had).

Firstly, I thought I'd let you see my craft room.  I've been very fortunate that I live on my own, and managed to convert one of my spare rooms into a work space - which ironically, I'm running out of space in!!!

One of the best investments I ever made was on an original scrapbox work box- here's the link to the youtube video

A new one was released last year I think, but I have neither the money or the space for another one!!

Here's mine opened out - before I stuffed it full of goodies..  the box opens to almost 9 feet, my room isn't wide enough to get it all in LOL   I've told my Mum it'll do me for a coffin when I die LOL
Once I had that in position, I filled it full, and put in my other worktop and desks around it.

It looks untidy, but I promise, I know where everything is... yeah right... I'm forever finding a drawer full of goodies I'd completely forgotten about LOL

I've since screwed cup hooks into the bottom of the shelf on the left, and hung up all my metal dies. That'll be a picture for next time.

So, that's my introduction done...

watch this space, hopefully I'll post a wee project very soon :)

thanks for stopping by,

Glenda
